Become an Alberta Independence Referendum Petition Canvasser

This Citizens’ Initiative Petition seeks to bring a referendum on Alberta Independence to the people of Alberta. As a canvasser, you’ll help collect signatures in your community to ensure this democratic question can be put to a public vote.

Training, materials, and ongoing support are provided, and you can volunteer on a schedule that works for you.

You CANNOT collect signatures unless you are a registered canvasser.

Only registered canvassers may collect signatures on the petition, view electors’ authorized identification, and witness each signature collected.

This is an Elections Alberta rule, so not anyone in Alberta can print off a signature form and collect signatures. This is part of the process so signatures can be checked and validated.

What is a Registered Canvasser?

The proponent must register every individual they wish to have canvass on their behalf.

A canvasser becomes registered after submitting their information through the proponent and Stay Free Alberta to Elections Alberta.

Who can become a Registered Canvasser?
